It belongs to the organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) family within the solute carrier (SLC) superfamily and facilitates the renal uptake and elimination of a broad range of organic anions, including bile acids, steroid conjugates, thyroid hormones, and many drugs, with digoxin being a clinically significant substrate[1][2][3][4][5]. OATP4C1 plays a key role in drug disposition, especially for substances requiring active tubular secretion, and its function is important for both pharmacokinetics and potential drug-drug interactions, particularly in the context of renal impairment or polypharmacy[1][6].
