Overview
Somatostatin is a peptide hormone that inhibits the secretion of several other hormones and various physiological processes. It acts through five G-protein coupled receptors (SSTR1-SSTR5) and plays a key role in regulating endocrine function, gastrointestinal function, and cell proliferation. Synthetic somatostatin analogs are used clinically to treat neuroendocrine tumors and other conditions.
