Somatostatin Receptor 1 (SSTR1)

Target
SSTR1
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Receptor, Somatostatin receptor subfamily
01

Overview

Somatostatin receptor 1 (SSTR1) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that mediates the inhibitory effects of somatostatin on hormone secretion and neuronal activity. It is primarily expressed in the jejunum, stomach, central nervous system, and peripheral tissues. SSTR1 plays roles in various physiological functions including growth hormone release, insulin/glucagon secretion, cell proliferation, gastric acid secretion, angiogenesis, and gastrointestinal motility. While not yet a primary drug target, its broad tissue distribution suggests potential therapeutic applications in metabolic regulation, gastrointestinal function, neurological diseases, and cancer.
