Somatostatin receptor type 3 (SSTR3) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays a key role in mediating the biological effects of somatostatin, a peptide hormone involved in inhibiting the release of various other hormones and secretory proteins. It is characterized by seven transmembrane segments and is expressed at highest levels in the brain and pancreatic islets. Upon ligand binding, it couples to pertussis toxin-sensitive G proteins, leading to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase activity.
