Somatostatin Receptor Type 4 (SSTR4)

Target
SSTR4
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor
01

Overview

Somatostatin Receptor Type 4 (SSTR4) is a G protein-coupled receptor that mediates the inhibitory effects of somatostatin on hormone secretion, modulates neuronal activity, and plays roles in metabolism, growth regulation, pain modulation, inflammation control, and potentially tumor suppression. It is a promising therapeutic target for chronic pain, inflammatory diseases, and certain cancers due to its antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects without significant impact on endocrine functions.

02

Mechanism of action

Activation by somatostatin leads to coupling with G proteins that inhibit adenylyl cyclase activity, resulting in decreased cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels within cells. Also functionally linked to activation of arachidonate release and mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade pathways.
