Overview
The somatotropin receptor/GH receptor is essential for mediating both direct actions of GH on target cells—such as stimulating linear bone growth—and indirect actions via induction of IGF-I. Its activation triggers multiple intracellular signaling cascades critical for normal postnatal development and metabolic regulation. Dysfunction leads primarily to impaired statural growth but can also affect metabolism broadly due to its role in lipid/glucose homeostasis.
