SORBS2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Other (not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor)

Overview

SORBS2 antisense RNA 1 (SORBS2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the SORBS2 gene locus. As an antisense transcript, its primary putative role is the regulation of SORBS2 gene expression, potentially affecting the levels and activity of the SORBS2 protein, which is an RNA-binding protein implicated in suppression of cancer metastasis and cellular adhesion. While the functional consequences of SORBS2-AS1 expression remain to be fully elucidated, antisense RNAs commonly exert post-transcriptional or epigenetic control over their sense gene counterparts, and dysregulation of antisense RNA is increasingly recognized as relevant in various disease contexts.\n\nNote: SORBS2-AS1 is distinct from SORBS2 protein, which itself is emerging as a node in cancer biology but is not synonymous with the antisense RNA. Direct disease roles, drug interventions, and functional mechanisms of SORBS2-AS1 have yet to be systematically characterized.

Mechanism of action

No drugs directly target SORBS2-AS1; any potential mechanism would involve modulation of SORBS2 gene expression via antisense interaction.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (typically by modulating the expression of the sense SORBS2 gene)Epigenetic regulationMay be involved in post-transcriptional regulation
04

Disease associations

No direct disease association described for SORBS2-AS1. The function is likely tied to regulation of SORBS2, which has disease relevance in ovarian cancer, cardiac dysfunction, and other conditions via its role as a tumor suppressor.
05

Safety considerations

None described; as a non-coding RNA, safety profiles have not been established for therapeutic targeting.
06

Biomarkers

Not currently used as a clinical biomarker for patient selection or efficacy monitoring.
