SORD antisense RNA 1 (SORD-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene. It is an antisense transcript oriented opposite to the protein-coding SORD (sorbitol dehydrogenase) gene. SORD-AS1 does not encode a protein; instead, like other antisense RNAs, it may regulate the expression of its sense gene or other targets at the RNA level, though direct functional or disease associations have not been described for SORD-AS1 specifically[5]. Generally, antisense RNAs can control gene expression through various mechanisms including transcriptional interference, alteration of chromatin structure, or influencing mRNA stability and translation[1][3][7].
