Sorokinianin is a tricyclic sesterterpenoid phytotoxin produced by the fungus Bipolaris sorokiniana, a significant pathogen responsible for diseases such as spot blotch and common root rot in cereal crops like wheat and barley [4, 5, 8, 12]. In the agricultural context, the molecule acts as a virulence factor that suppresses plant immunity and inhibits seed germination, thereby facilitating fungal colonization [5, 14]. Molecular docking and experimental studies have revealed that Sorokinianin interacts with the G-protein alpha (Gα) and beta (Gβ) subunits of the host plant's heterotrimeric G-protein system, interfering with critical signaling pathways during infection [2, 14]. Beyond its role in plant pathology, recent pharmacological research has identified its potential anti-inflammatory properties in mammalian systems, specifically through its ability to inhibit the production of nitric oxide (NO) in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages [12]. Despite these biological activities, Sorokinianin is a small molecule metabolite and is not classified as a therapeutic protein, receptor, or enzyme target in human medicine.
