Overview

Sorting nexin-33 (SNX33) is a cytoplasmic protein involved in the reorganization of the cytoskeleton, vesicle trafficking, and endocytosis, particularly during mitosis and cytokinesis[1][3][7]. It contains PX, SH3, and BAR domains, enabling it to bind phosphatidylinositol lipids, interact with protein partners such as WASL and dynamins, and promote membrane remodeling. SNX33 is also implicated in modulating the endocytosis and secretion of specific cell-surface proteins, including the amyloid precursor protein (APP) and cellular prion protein (PRNP)[1][7]. The protein plays a key role in the formation of the cleavage furrow during cell division, and its dysfunction may perturb membrane trafficking processes. As of current knowledge, SNX33 is not considered a direct therapeutic target nor is it established as a clinical biomarker or drug target[1][6][7].
