Target intelligence / Profile preview
Sorting nexin-7 (SNX7) is a member of the sorting nexin family, characterized by the presence of a phox (PX) domain that binds phosphoinositide lipids in organelle membranes. SNX7 is involved in the regulation of endocytosis and multiple stages of intracellular trafficking. Together with related family member SNX4, SNX7 is implicated in autophagosome assembly through regulation of phospholipid scramblase (ATG9A) trafficking and recycling. Unlike some family members, SNX7 does not contain a coiled coil region, and its precise function remains incompletely defined. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants. There is currently little to no evidence that SNX7 itself serves as a direct therapeutic target, drug receptor, or biomarker. Further details include: SNX7 is a protein-coding gene encoding a PX domain protein, with roles indicated in membrane trafficking, particularly endosomal and autophagy-related pathways. There is no evidence in current literature or gene/protein databases that SNX7 is a validated drug target or receptor, nor are there any drugs known to interact directly with it. Some genetic association with inflammatory bowel disease has been reported, but not as a mechanistic disease driver or actionable biomarker. The precise biological functions are under active investigation, but broader sorting nexin family roles include protein transport, endosomal sorting, and membrane trafficking. No safety concerns, drug mechanism, or biomarker roles are described in current reference data. Alternative names such as "Sorting nexin 7" and "sorting nexin-7" are used interchangeably, but the standardized full name is "Sorting nexin-7", abbreviation "SNX7".
