Sorting nexin-7 (SNX7)

Sorting nexin-7 (SNX7) is a member of the sorting nexin family, characterized by the presence of a phox (PX) domain that binds phosphoinositide lipids in organelle membranes. SNX7 is involved in the regulation of endocytosis and multiple stages of intracellular trafficking. Together with related family member SNX4, SNX7 is implicated in autophagosome assembly through regulation of phospholipid scramblase (ATG9A) trafficking and recycling. Unlike some family members, SNX7 does not contain a coiled coil region, and its precise function remains incompletely defined. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
