SOX9 antisense RNA 1 (SOX9-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the genomic region antisense to the SOX9 gene. It acts as a molecular regulator, facilitating cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis, notably by modulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway via a positive feedback loop involving miR-5590-3p and SOX9. SOX9-AS1 is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and triple-negative breast cancer, correlating with poor prognosis and aggressive tumor behavior. Its function is exerted largely in the cytoplasm by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sponges specific microRNAs, thus influencing the expression of SOX9 and downstream pathways implicated in cancer progression[2][3].
