Spalt-like transcription factor 4 pseudogene 4 (SALL4P4) is a noncoding pseudogene related to SALL4. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to functional genes but generally lack protein-coding ability. SALL4P4 is one of eight known SALL4 pseudogenes in humans. Most pseudogenes, including SALL4P4, are considered nonfunctional; however, recent research reveals that some pseudogenes (such as SALL4P5) may regulate their parental gene (e.g., SALL4) by affecting DNA methylation and expression. SALL4 itself is a zinc-finger transcription factor crucial for embryonic stem cell maintenance and is often misregulated in cancers. SALL4P4 has not been directly implicated as a therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or drug target, and its role remains primarily noncoding[1][2][3][5].
