Overview

SPARC antisense RNA 1 (SPARC-AS1), also known as CLMAT3 (Colorectal liver metastasis associated transcript 3), is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) implicated in the progression and metastasis of colorectal cancer. High expression levels of SPARC-AS1 in colorectal cancer (CRC) are significantly associated with aggressive tumor phenotypes, poor patient prognosis, and liver metastasis. Mechanistically, SPARC-AS1 interacts with chromatin remodeling factors and may help regulate genes related to metastasis, such as MMP9, often through epigenetic mechanisms. Its function is not fully understood but accumulating evidence points to its role as a regulatory molecule contributing to CRC tumorigenesis and metastatic spread[1][2].
