Overview

SPART antisense RNA 1 (SPART-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense transcript situated on chromosome 13q13.3; this RNA is presumed to act primarily at the RNA level, regulating the expression of its sense-strand counterpart, the SPART (SPG20) gene, through mechanisms common to antisense RNAs such as transcriptional interference and chromatin modification. While antisense RNAs often modulate gene expression with regulatory effects in cis or trans, specific disease roles or direct clinical applications for SPART-AS1 have not been established.
