SPATA31 subfamily J member 1 (SPATA31J1), also known as C5orf60, is a gene located on chromosome 5 that is annotated as an RNA gene, primarily classified as a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)[5][6]. While other SPATA31 family members (such as SPATA31A1 and SPATA31C1) encode proteins implicated in spermatogenesis, UV-induced DNA damage repair, and aging-related pathways, SPATA31J1 lacks well-defined protein-coding capacity and is currently not considered a validated protein-coding therapeutic target[5][6]. Its molecular and biological function remains unclear, lacking evidence for involvement in defined signaling pathways or diseases associated with classical drug targets. Paralogous SPATA31 genes are under rapid evolutionary expansion in primates and may play a general role in genome regulation and adaptation, but SPATA31J1 itself remains functionally and therapeutically uncharacterized[1][6].
