Hyaluronidase PH20 (PH20)

Target
PH20
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Hyaluronidase, Glycosyl hydrolase
01

Overview

Hyaluronidase PH20 (SPAM1, HYAL5) is a GPI-anchored enzyme that degrades hyaluronic acid, a major component of the extracellular matrix. It is crucial for sperm penetration through the cumulus cell layer during fertilization. Recombinant human PH20 (rHuPH20) is used clinically to enhance subcutaneous drug delivery by increasing tissue permeability. Elevated expression has also been observed in demyelinating lesions, suggesting a role in nervous system pathology.
