Overview
Sperm-associated antigen 8 (SPAG8) is a testis-specific protein involved in spermatogenesis, where it plays roles in transcriptional regulation through interaction with ACT (activator of CREM in the testis) and in the regulation of microtubule formation and cell division during germ cell development. SPAG8 is recognized by sperm agglutinating antibodies in some infertile individuals, implicating it in immunologic infertility, and it is localized throughout spermatogenic germ cells and the acrosomal region of mature spermatozoa. Alternative splicing of the gene yields multiple protein isoforms, though only two full-length isoforms have been characterized[1][2][3].
