Overview

Sperm microtubule associated protein 2-like (SPMAP2L) is a protein-coding gene highly expressed in the testis, particularly in late spermatids, where its exact function remains unknown. It is classified as a testis/sperm-associated protein, not as an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or GPCR. SPMAP2L is related to spermatogenesis and may be involved in protein assembly, largely inferred by analogy with its paralog SPMAP2. There is currently no experimental evidence for a direct functional role or disease involvement of SPMAP2L in humans, nor is it a known therapeutic target. The protein is alternatively spliced and has several isoforms, but its specific clinical significance and mechanism remain unclear.
