Overview

Sperm microtubule inner protein 1 (SPMIP1) is a structural protein encoded by the SPMIP1 gene, found on chromosome 7 in humans[11]. It is expressed specifically in sperm cells, where it is believed to play a role in organizing and maintaining the structure of sperm microtubules, which are critical for sperm motility and integrity[1][7][10]. SPMIP1 is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and there are no known associations with human pathology, nor is it presently a direct target for pharmacological intervention. Commanding a very specialized and narrow biological function in sperm cell architecture, SPMIP1 is mainly referenced in the context of studies on male gamete formation and function rather than broader biomedical research[1][7][11].
