Overview

Sperm microtubule inner protein 4 (SPMIP4) is a protein localized to the centrosome and sperm flagella, where it forms part of the microtubule inner proteins (MIPs) embedded in dynein-decorated doublet microtubules (DMTs)[2][4][6][8]. SPMIP4 acts to reinforce and stabilize the microtubule structure, supporting the mechanical integrity necessary for sperm flagellar beating and motility[1][2][8]. It is critical for maintaining the axonemal architecture required for effective sperm movement but is not known to be involved in signal transduction, metabolic regulation, or any pathway currently exploited by therapeutic drugs[2][4][8][11]. There is no evidence directly linking SPMIP4 to disease, nor is it a target for pharmacological intervention.
