Sperm protein associated with the nucleus on the X chromosome C (SPANXC) is a member of the SPANX gene family, which encodes cancer/testis antigens restricted to testis and spermatozoa in normal tissues but aberrantly expressed in a range of cancers—including melanoma, breast cancer, hematological malignancies, and metastases. SPANXC participates in nuclear organization, chromatin structure regulation, and RNA processing, and is implicated in processes fundamental to cancer such as cell proliferation, migration, and metastatic potential.
