The term "sperm structure and function" describes the collective anatomical features and biological processes of spermatozoa rather than a specific molecular entity that can be therapeutically targeted. It is a biological system and physiological process, hence it is not considered a therapeutic target. Sperm are highly specialized cells with multiple functional components, including structural components such as the nucleus, acrosome, flagellum (tail), midpiece, principal piece, and end piece. Their functional roles include reaching the ovum, delivering genetic material, and contributing centrioles for organizing the microtubule cytoskeleton. If therapeutic targeting related to male fertility or sperm function is desired, the appropriate targets would be specific proteins or receptors within sperm, such as CatSper channels, mitochondrial complexes, axonemal proteins, or acrosomal enzymes.
