Overview

Spermatid perinuclear RNA-binding protein is coded by the *STRBP* gene on human chromosome 9. It is an RNA- and DNA-binding protein essential for spermatogenesis, influencing cell differentiation and growth within male germ cells. STRBP binds double-stranded DNA and RNA with a preference for poly(I:C) RNA, and also interacts with single-stranded poly(G) RNA and PRM1 mRNA[1][5][7]. It is predominantly localized in the nucleus and is functionally involved in cellular motility and mechanosensory behavior in germ cells. Disease associations are primarily related to hematologic cancers and cryptorchidism, but STRBP is not established as a direct drug target or biomarker[1][2][5][7].
