SPATA41 (spermatogenesis associated 41; also known as FLJ42289, HSD47) is annotated as a non-protein coding transcript on the human genome. Unlike several other members of the spermatogenesis associated (SPATA) gene family (such as SPATA2, SPATA4, SPATA5, and SPATA48), which encode proteins involved in testis biology and spermatogenesis, SPATA41 lacks direct evidence of protein-coding potential, characterized biological function, or disease role. As such, it is not considered a classical therapeutic target (i.e., receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), and there are no known drugs or biomarkers related to its activity. Its aliases reflect entries in gene and transcript databases. No structural, mechanistic, or clinical information is available to support designation as a functional target. Be careful not to confuse SPATA41 with other better-characterized SPATA genes (e.g., SPATA2, SPATA5, SPATA48), which play defined roles in spermatogenesis and, for some, male infertility or cancer biology[1][4][7]. SPATA41 itself does not have published experimental or therapeutic relevance; available evidence suggests it is at most a locus for a non-coding RNA transcript.
