Spermatogenesis associated 6 like protein (SPATA6L) is a testis-specific, protein-coding gene expressed predominantly in sperm cells, where it is predicted to contribute to the process of spermatogenesis and the structural integrity of sperm, particularly in the sperm head-tail coupling apparatus[2][3][5][8][9]. SPATA6L is paralogous to SPATA6, which is evolutionarily conserved, and may play a similar role in sperm development, possibly by binding myosin light chains or by mediating cytoskeletal interactions during late stages of spermiogenesis[2][8][9]. It is not currently considered a therapeutic target and has no known direct roles in major disease categories aside from a genetic association with dicarboxylic aminoaciduria[2]. There are no known drug interactions, biomarker roles, or safety concerns related to SPATA6L. The gene is located on chromosome 9 (human), with several aliases (e.g., C9orf68, FLJ10058)[2][9]. There is currently no evidence that SPATA6L is misspelled, ambiguous, or otherwise problematic. The molecule is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, but rather a specialized testis-specific protein important for sperm structure and maturation[2][3][8][9].
