Spermatogenesis-associated protein 16 (SPATA16)

Target
SPATA16
Molecular classification
Other (tetratricopeptide repeat-like superfamily), Vesicular transport protein

Overview

Spermatogenesis-associated protein 16 (SPATA16) is a testis-specific protein localized to the Golgi apparatus that is essential for spermiogenesis and male fertility. It plays a critical role in the formation of the sperm acrosome during spermatogenesis. Dysfunction or altered regulation (e.g., hypermethylation of its promoter) is associated with male infertility conditions such as oligozoospermia and globozoospermia[1][2][3][4].
