Spermatogenesis-associated protein 24 (SPATA24)

Target
SPATA24
Molecular classification
Other (protein coding gene, not classified as receptor, channel, enzyme, etc.), Coiled-coil domain containing family, DNA-binding protein
01

Overview

SPATA24 (Spermatogenesis-associated protein 24) is a DNA-binding protein that is predicted to participate in regulation of gene expression with synergistic effects on certain promoter activation, notably working with GMNN and TBP family proteins. Its main recognized roles are in cell differentiation and spermatogenesis, where it may be especially relevant to cytoplasm movement and removal during spermiogenesis[1][7][5][6]. The protein is found in both the cytosol and nucleoplasm. While aberrant expression and somatic mutation of SPATA24 have been observed in malignant tissues (colorectal, endometrial, breast, cervical cancers), its direct disease role is not well characterized and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target[2][4][9].
