Overview

SPATA31 subfamily C member 2 (SPATA31C2) is a protein-coding gene, most highly expressed in testis and sperm, and predicted to play a role in spermatogenesis and cell differentiation. The protein may be an integral membrane component, but its precise function is currently unclear. Although sometimes previously annotated as a possible pseudogene, current evidence from genome resources and proteomics supports a protein-coding role. There is no evidence of a direct role in disease or in drug interactions and it is not considered a therapeutic target. The wider SPATA31 family is conserved across mammals, with some paralogs suggested to participate in DNA repair and response to UV damage in other contexts.
