Spermatogenesis process

01

Overview

Spermatogenesis is the process by which haploid spermatozoa develop from germ cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testicle[1][2][6]. This highly regulated process begins with the mitotic division of spermatogonial stem cells, proceeds through meiosis to produce secondary spermatocytes and then spermatids, and culminates in the maturation of these into spermatozoa[1][6]. It is essential for male fertility and is tightly controlled by hormonal signals, particularly those involving the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and Leydig and Sertoli cells of the testes[4][2]. Spermatogenesis is sensitive to temperature, hormonal changes, diet, age, and various disease states, and disruptions can lead to infertility[2][6].
