Spermatogenic leucine zipper protein 1 (SPZ1)

Target
SPZ1
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (bHLH-Zip) protein

Overview

Spermatogenic leucine zipper protein 1 (SPZ1) is a testis-specific transcription factor characterized by a basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (bHLH-Zip) domain. It is implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation during spermatogenesis, functioning within the MAPK signaling pathway. Aberrant overexpression in transgenic models leads to disrupted tissue homeostasis, germ cell apoptosis, and male infertility. In addition, SPZ1 has been associated with tumorigenesis and may serve as a target for Ras-induced cancer therapy approaches
