Spermine synthase pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene
01

Overview

Spermine synthase pseudogene (ENSG00000232389) is a processed, nonfunctional DNA segment homologous to the spermine synthase gene. Like other processed pseudogenes, it arose via reverse transcription and genomic integration of mRNA from the functional gene but lacks the required regulatory sequences and coding integrity to produce active protein. Pseudogenes such as this do not have straightforward biological functions and are not considered therapeutic targets, receptors, or classical molecular entities of interest in drug development[1][3][5]. There is currently no evidence suggesting that this specific pseudogene plays any regulatory role or is relevant as a disease biomarker, although some pseudogenes can sometimes influence gene regulation or disease progression in other contexts[2][4][6].
