Spi-C transcription factor pseudogene 4 (SPICP4) is classified as a pseudogene on chromosome 21, related in sequence to the Spi-C transcription factor (a member of the ETS family that is important for hematopoietic cell differentiation, especially in B cells and macrophages)[1][5]. As a pseudogene, SPICP4 does not encode a functional protein. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and can act as regulatory RNAs (such as competitive endogenous RNAs or siRNA precursors), there is no current evidence that SPICP4 has a functional RNA or protein product or is involved in human disease or drug action[1][4]. The Spi-C gene (not the pseudogene) encodes a protein that plays critical regulatory roles in immune cells, especially in B cell and red pulp macrophage differentiation[3][5]. Pseudogenes like SPICP4 typically result from duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally noncoding. Some pseudogenes may generate regulatory RNAs, but this is not established for SPICP4[4]. SPICP4 is a pseudogene with no known functional product, disease role, or direct druggability and should not be considered a therapeutic target[1].
