Overview

Spi-C transcription factor pseudogene 5, abbreviated SPICP5, is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 4. It is annotated as a sequence similar to the Spi-C transcription factor (Spi-1/PU.1 related), a member of the ETS family of transcription factors. Unlike the functional Spi-C gene (SPIC), which is important for the development of red pulp macrophages and iron homeostasis, SPICP5 does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes generally arise from duplication or mutation of functional genes and may be transcribed in some cases, potentially affecting gene regulation through RNA interference (such as siRNA generation). However, specific biological or clinical roles for SPICP5 have not been identified, nor is it considered a target for therapeutic intervention[1][3][6].
