Target intelligence / Profile preview
The spike protein (S protein) of SARS-CoV-2 is a large, trimeric glycoprotein that protrudes from the viral surface and is essential for mediating viral entry into host cells. It binds specifically to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors on human cells, triggering conformational changes that lead to fusion between the viral envelope and the host cell membrane, allowing viral RNA entry.
