Spinal cord neurons and peripheral nerve fibers constitute the fundamental structural and functional units of the somatosensory and motor systems. Spinal cord neurons, located within the central nervous system, integrate sensory input and coordinate motor output, while peripheral nerve fibers serve as the communication lines between the spinal cord and the rest of the body (StatPearls, 2023). Consequently, while they are critical sites for pharmacological intervention, they represent a systemic level of organization rather than a discrete molecular entity.
