Overview

A spinal nerve is a mixed peripheral nerve that arises from the junction of dorsal (sensory) and ventral (motor) roots from the spinal cord. There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves in humans, each emerging from the spinal column to innervate specific dermatomes (skin areas) and myotomes (muscle groups) in the body. Spinal nerves carry both sensory (afferent) and motor (efferent) fibers, and some contain autonomic fibers as well. They are crucial conduits for communication between the central nervous system and the peripheral tissues, mediating voluntary movement, sensory perception, and autonomic regulation. Spinal nerves are frequently affected in compressive, traumatic, or degenerative spinal diseases such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and nerve root entrapment syndromes. In summary: "Spinal nerve" is an anatomical/functional entity, not a molecular or pharmacological target; therefore, most fields asked above do not apply or return null.
