Overview

SPINT1 antisense RNA 1 (SPINT1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located antisense to the SPINT1 gene. It functions mainly as a regulatory RNA, modulating processes central to cancer biology, including cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and chemotherapeutic response. SPINT1-AS1 has been shown to repress the biogenesis of miR-214 through binding DNM3OS, thereby activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway—a driver of tumor progression—and regulating genes such as c-Myc and cyclin D1. High SPINT1-AS1 expression is associated with increased sensitivity to the cancer drug Lapatinib in multiple epithelial cancer cell types, and its knockdown promotes therapeutic resistance. These findings highlight SPINT1-AS1 as both a potential biomarker and a novel therapeutic target, particularly in cancers such as cervical, colorectal, breast, and pancreatic cancers[1][2][3].
