SPNS2 antisense RNA 1 (SPNS2-AS1)

Target
SPNS2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)
01

Overview

SPNS2 antisense RNA 1 (SPNS2-AS1) is a predicted or annotated long non-coding RNA gene whose sequence is antisense to the protein-coding gene SPNS2. It is classified as an lncRNA, which may have regulatory functions on SPNS2 gene expression or general chromatin state, but no specific biological role, interaction with drugs, clinical biomarker status, or disease involvement has been robustly described. There is a common confusion in the literature between SPNS2 (a validated sphingosine-1-phosphate transporter and therapeutic target) and SPNS2-AS1. The latter is not a canonical therapeutic target.

Other names
SPNS2-AS1spinster homolog 2, antisense RNA 1
02

Mechanism of action

None (no pharmacologically validated mechanisms)

03

Biological functions

Currently unclear; general function of antisense lncRNAs often includes regulation of their sense counterpart (in this case, SPNS2), epigenetic regulation, or RNA-mediated gene silencing. There is no direct evidence of specific biological function for SPNS2-AS1 in major sources.
04

Disease associations

Other (no robust, disease-specific roles established)
