Overview

SPRY domain-containing SOCS box protein 1 (SPSB1) is a protein encoded by the SPSB1 gene in humans. It serves as a substrate recognition component of an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex, mediating the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of specific target proteins. SPSB1 is involved in the regulation of nitric oxide production by targeting inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS2) in activated macrophages, thereby modulating immune responses and cellular toxicity. The gene is associated with pathways such as protein metabolism and MHC class I-mediated antigen processing[2][4][5][6][8]. SPSB1 does not currently have direct therapeutic targeting agents, and while it is not considered a classic therapeutic target (like an enzyme or receptor), disruptions in its function are linked to certain muscular dystrophies and possibly immunological or inflammatory processes[2].
