Overview

SPTBN1 antisense RNA 1 (SPTBN1-AS1) is an annotated long non-coding RNA gene with limited functional characterization to date. It is transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the SPTBN1 coding gene, which encodes the spectrin beta chain, brain 1 protein. Unlike SPTBN1, which is a well-studied cytoskeletal protein with established roles in cell structure, signaling, and disease, the functions, biological impact, and potential disease associations of SPTBN1-AS1 are currently not well defined in the literature. There are no established roles for SPTBN1-AS1 as a biomarker, drug target, or mechanism of action for therapeutics at this time[3][6]. Most published data and disease associations refer to SPTBN1 (protein-coding) and not to SPTBN1-AS1 (non-coding RNA). If you are specifically interested in the protein-coding SPTBN1 (Spectrin beta chain, brain 1), its molecular and disease relevance is entirely distinct[1][5][6].

Biological functions

Other (currently undefined; SPTBN1-AS1 is classified as a non-coding RNA and there is little published data on its biological function)
03

Disease associations

Other (no well-validated association with specific diseases; the role, if any, remains to be defined)
