SR-related CTD-associated factor 1 (SCAF1) is a multifunctional nuclear protein that serves key roles in linking transcription by RNA polymerase II to mRNA splicing, by binding its C-terminal domain. SCAF1 is a member of the serine/arginine-rich (SR) superfamily of splicing factors and influences both pre-mRNA processing and transcriptional regulation. Beyond the nucleus, SCAF1 is involved in the assembly and organization of mitochondrial respiratory supercomplexes, thereby impacting cellular metabolism and energetic efficiency.
