Src is a non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase and the founding member of the Src family kinases (SFKs). It plays a key role in regulating various cellular processes, including proliferation, differentiation, migration, adhesion, survival, and angiogenesis. Src activity is regulated by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation at key tyrosine residues. Deregulation or constitutive activation of Src has been implicated in oncogenic transformation and cancer progression, as well as other diseases involving fibrosis and immune cell signaling. Inhibiting SFK activity is an active area for anti-cancer drug development.
