SRI antisense RNA 1 (SRI-AS1) is classified as a long non-coding antisense RNA transcribed from the region opposite the SRI (Sorcin) gene locus. Like other natural antisense RNAs, its primary function is the regulation of gene expression, typically by hybridizing with the complementary sense mRNA, influencing its stability, translation, or epigenetic state. While the general mechanisms and significance of antisense RNAs (asRNAs) in cellular processes and disease are well supported, the specific functions and disease associations of SRI-AS1 in particular are not yet well elucidated in the literature. Generally, antisense lncRNAs are increasingly studied for their emerging roles in cancer (often as regulators of oncogenes and tumor suppressors), and for their potential as research tools or therapeutic targets. However, SRI-AS1 is not currently considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme: it is a gene regulatory RNA, not a protein-coding gene[1][2][3].
