Pseudogenes typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes but accumulate mutations that abrogate protein-coding capability. SRP14P3 is related by sequence to the SRP14 gene, which encodes a component of the signal recognition particle complex involved in cotranslational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)[4].
