SRP14 pseudogene 5 (SRP14P5) is a pseudogene derived from the *signal recognition particle 14 kDa protein* gene (SRP14). Pseudogenes, by definition, are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but generally nonfunctional; they are typically not transcribed into functional proteins. There is no evidence that SRP14P5 encodes an active protein, participates in signaling, or acts as a therapeutic target. The functional gene, SRP14, is a component of the signal recognition particle complex involved in the cotranslational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, but its pseudogenes (like SRP14P5) do not carry out these roles[5][4][1]. There are no indications in major databases or scientific literature of biological, disease, or therapeutic relevance specific to SRP14 pseudogene 5. The main confusion often arises because pseudogenes frequently share names with their parental genes. However, only the parental gene (SRP14) is functionally relevant as a ribonucleoprotein component; SRP14P5 does **not** encode a protein and is not regarded as a therapeutic target[5][4].
