Overview

SRPK2 antisense RNA 1 (SRPK2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the locus antisense to the SRPK2 gene. Antisense RNAs in general can regulate the expression of their associated sense genes, often at the level of RNA stability, translation, or splicing, but specific functions for SRPK2-AS1 have not yet been described in the literature. No evidence currently supports its use as a direct therapeutic target. The inclusion of “antisense RNA 1” in the target name indicates it is a type of long non-coding RNA and not a protein, receptor, or customary "therapeutic target" class. As of the current literature and available genetic databases, there is scarce or no functional or disease association information for "SRPK2-AS1" specifically. Long non-coding antisense RNAs in general may play regulatory roles, but unless specific experimental evidence is available, it should not be classified as a traditional pharmacological target.
