Overview

SRY-box transcription factor 11 (SOX11) is an intronless gene encoding a member of the C group of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) transcription factor family[1][3]. SOX11 binds DNA and regulates gene expression, particularly genes controlling differentiation and development of brain and nerve cells[5]. It can act as a pioneer factor in chromatin remodeling, influencing cell-specific lineage determination[5]. SOX11 is essential for organogenesis and neural development, with critical roles in embryogenesis and adult neurogenesis[3][5]. As a clinical biomarker, SOX11 is strongly associated with mantle cell lymphoma and is implicated in Coffin–Siris syndrome due to pathogenic variants disrupting its gene regulatory activities[2][5]. While SOX11 is a promising marker and potential therapeutic target, there are currently no approved drugs that directly modulate its function; targeting approaches would likely focus on related signaling pathways or gene regulation mechanisms[3][5].
