Overview

SRY-box transcription factor 14 (SOX14) is a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors, specifically the SOXB2 subgroup, and plays pivotal roles in embryonic and neural development by regulating transcription and determining cell fate[2][4][5]. It can act as a transcriptional regulator either alone or as part of a protein complex[5]. SOX14 expression is tightly regulated, particularly in neural tissues by developmental signals such as Sonic hedgehog (SHH), with downstream modulation by factors like FOXA2 and GLI1[2]. Aberrant SOX14 expression and gene methylation have been implicated in pathological proliferation and invasion of cervical cancer cells through activation of the canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, supporting both its potential oncogenic role and its value as a biomarker in cancer diagnostics[2][3]. Mutations in SOX14 are linked to rare congenital syndromes involving limb and facial defects[5]. Current evidence does not support the existence of approved drugs or direct therapeutic targeting of SOX14, but research indicates that its modulation may influence tumor growth and diagnostic potential in selected cancers[2][3].
