SRY-box transcription factor 15 (SOX15)

Target
SOX15
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family
01

Overview

SRY-box transcription factor 15 is a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors, which play crucial roles in embryonic development and cell fate determination[1][3][5]. The protein functions as a transcriptional regulator by binding specific DNA sequences, sometimes in complex with other proteins, and acting as either an activator or repressor depending on the context[3]. SOX15 is implicated in several biological processes, including suppression of tumor cell proliferation (notably in pancreatic and prostate cancer), regulation of muscle differentiation via downregulation of muscle-specific genes, and skeletal muscle regeneration[3][4][8]. Diseases associated with this gene include various developmental disorders and types of cancer, with evidence supporting its role as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting pathways such as Wnt/β-catenin signaling[3][4]. No drugs are currently known to target SOX15 directly, and it is not recognized as a therapeutic target or biomarker in clinical practice[3][4][5].
